This concrete bridge extends like a sculpture between the banks of the Ill river. As the connection to the terrain and the local flood protection requirements prevented the use of a supporting substructure, a covered bridge design with load bearing on the longitudinal sides was implemented instead. In keeping with bionic principles, diagonal tension and pressure rods arranged at irregular intervals generate an unmistakable look. This ensures that the bridge lets in lots of light while also offering views of the river and surrounding countryside on both sides.
