The Kunsthaus Bregenz is a renowned, internationally active exhibition house with a focus on prominent works of contemporary art. Its central task lies in fostering dialogues between the fine arts, architecture, creative work and society. An ambitious exhibition program and its unique architecture have helped the Kunsthaus gain a preeminent reputation on the international art and architecture scenes. The museum was built in the years 1990 to 1997 by the acclaimed Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, a distinguished winner of the Pritzker Prize.
Artists are encouraged to react to the building’s architectural statements and create works which form symbiotic relationships to it. Thus, a large number of the works exhibited in the Kunsthaus originate onsite, specially conceived for the house. With its extensive educational programs, the Kunsthaus also reaches out to the public with guided tours, lectures, films and discussion groups. In addition, it publishes exhibition catalogues, books on artists and their art, and special editions.
