  • Bizau was home to the poet Gebhard Wölfle, much admired in the Bregenzerwald. The unofficial motto of the Bregenzerwald locals originates from him: „Meor ehrod das Ault, meorgrüoßod das Nü und blibod üs sealb und dor Hoamad trü” (“We honour the old and welcome the new, and stay true to ourselves and our native country”). This also rings true of the contemporary buildings in the village which has been awarded the main ARGE-Alp prize for modern architecture in rural areas. The jury praised the plain new buildings which fit in with the character of the village. The typical “Hag” (fence) and the bedding meadows in Bizau’s marshland are worth a visit.

    We recommend hiking boots with a treaded sole, since some of the walk off the beaten track of the village roads is on hiking paths.

  • Wegbeschreibung

    Right after the village hall you’ll see the “Gasthof Taube”, where you’ll turn off to the right, and reach the newly built kindergarten. Opposite is a distribution substation and on the path behind it you arrive back at the main street. Cross it, andcontinue straight ahead until, after about 50 m, you reach the Bizauerbach. Here, you turn off to the right and follow the stream upwards. Once you have reached the mainroad, continue along the pavement. At signpost 8.11, turn off to the right towards “Bildbühel Kapelle”. Below the chapel you’ll see signpost 8.10. Follow the “Moosrundweg” signposts and keep to the right (asphalt path). At board 8.09, you once again turn off to the right towards “Bizau Ortsmitte”. Follow this path as far as board 8.02, where you turn off to the left and take the asphalt path out of the valley. You pass St Josef’s chapel, where you keep to the left and, following the yellow-and-white marking, ramble out into Bizauer Feld. Once there, you see a wayside cross. Turn off to the right and return to the main road. Take the pathto the right. Once you have passed the “Wälderfenster” company, the hikingboard 8.17 indicates that you should turn left to the Bizauerbach. Follow the stream upwards, and enjoy the lovely views as far as the centre of Bizau.
